How We Work
Request Intake
During the intake process, requests will be triaged, classified, and scored depending on whether the request is to resolve an issue, add a feature to an existing product, or develop a completely new solution. After intake, requests are input into the prioritization process.
Request Prioritization
The prioritization process provides a standardized method of communicating, prioritizing, and delivering work product for both the Data Strategy team and our customers.
- During intake, requests are classified as discretionary or non-discretionary
- Non-discretionary activities take precedence over discretionary
- Prioritization occurs on a quarterly basis.
Non-discretionary
Non-discretionary activities are required based on external or institutional drivers. Non-discretionary activities are assessed by internal Data Strategy leadership. Some examples of non-discretionary activities may include:
- Regulatory or compliance requirements
- Business continuity
- Mandate from executive leadership
- Priorities set at higher organizational level
Discretionary
Discretionary requests are requested by organizational units based on business need. Discretionary requests are scored based on their institutional value and complexity to deliver. Discretionary requests are prioritized by the Data Governance Advisory Committee (DGAC).
Fundamental Expectations
Not all activities require prioritization, because they may supersede existing priorities, are required work, or are too small to prioritize. Some examples may include:
- Life safety
- Incident response
- Day-to-day operational work required for business
- Incidental effort
Prioritization Process
- Data Strategy leadership identify and rank non-discretionary activities required for the next quarter
- DGAC stakeholders review and rank discretionary activities
- Data Strategy leadership merge the discretionary and non-discretionary priority rankings
- During the quarter, teams will first work on fundamental expectations, then the highest priority task available within their area of responsibility
Delivery Process
- Teams will provide updates on a defined cadence during the quarter.
- At the end of the quarter, teams will publish release notes including a summary of all work completed.
